helpfile for SNEStool V0.09, 02 May 1998
========================================
Hello console dudes around the world. Welcome to the third official
release from the Icebird console division.
purpose..
...........
SNEStool is a utility for manupulating cartridge ROM images for the
Super Famicon/Super Nintendo Entertainment System game console. It
will be useful in conjunction with a game-copier station for the
SNES console or with an SNES emulator.
In this early pre-version only ROM-image format conversion can be done.
Wait for future versions with lots of planned features.
brief documentation..
.......................
loading
-------
Simply drag an SNES ROM image file to either of the windows or the
icon. SNEStool will try to detect the ROM image format and extract
cartridge information which can be seen in the main window. Currently
supported ROM image formats are:
- SMC/SWC (Super Magicom/Super Wild Card game copier format)
- FIG (ProFighter game copier format)
- MGH (Multi Game Hunter game copier format)
- GD (Game Doctor I game copier format)
- RAW (raw ROM dump)
Loading a file automatically opens the save/conversion window.
SNEStool will load a file even if it is no valid ROM image. If the
main info window shows strange ROM information then you probably loaded
an invalid file.
saving
------
ROM images can be saved in either of the following formats
- SMC/SWC (Super Magicom/Super Wild Card)
- FIG (ProFighter)
- MGH (Multi Game Hunter)
- MGH with infofile for the MGH copier
- GD (Game Doctor I) *not implemented*
- RAW (raw ROM dump)
Ticking the DOS filename option then the filename of the saved image(s)
will be a DOS filename and conform to the naming convention of the
appropriate game copier.
ROM images can be saved as multipart files. This might be useful for
spreading large images across multiple floppy discs for loading to your
game copier. The filenames of multipart files depend on the selected
save format.
misc
----
This is an pre-release only, so some of the functions don't work, yet,
including:
- support for splitted source files
- *.mgh infofile detection
- some points of the embedded ROM information
- saving in GD format
- handling SRAM information when saving in SMC/SWC or FIG format
planned features..
....................
- interactive !Help (for detailed description of program features)
- support for more ROM image formats (Game Doctor III, etc.)
- support for splitted source files
- support for SRAM images
- SMC/SWC file header modification
- support for sending/rerieving ROM images directly to attached
game copier stations via parallel port
- interaction with any about to developed SNES emulators for the Acorn
- intelligent automatic code modification
(NTSC/PAL fixes, copy protection removal, slow ROM check removal, ...)
- applying patches and cheats to ROM images (IPS, Game Genie, etc.)
- disassebling/modification of ROM images
- hacking graphics, sound
- formatting/handling floppy discs for game copiers
